WHAT EXACTLY IS A SENIOR CITIZEN?

Hello,  my name is Kerry Justice.  I am a Senior Citizen.  I am wondering what exactly that is.  Does it mean that I am special, dangerous, wild and crazy?   I will be on an investigative search for the answer to this question and many other questions.  I will research by inapproprietly asking personal questions of some of the people that I meet in my daily travels.  I will search the internet.  I will ask friends and enemies(kidding about the enemies).....

Some of the questions I will ask are:

(1)  As you have aged,  what is your greatest joy?  What is your greatest fear?
(2)  What does it mean for you to be a "Senior Citizen?
(3)  Do you think we should get a discount at the Grocery Store?
(4)  Shouldn't the Senior Discount be much, much  bigger?
(5)  As you have aged what in life keeps you young in heart and soul?
(6)  What is the one thing that you would go back and change if you could?
(7)  Who do you love?
(8)  What is your Dream now and What was your Dream in youth?

I myself have Joy in my life.  Joy comes to me in the form of my loving and caring children, their spouses (whom I think of as my children also) .  I am filled with Joy when I think of, talk to and spend time with  my wonderful, extraordinary and special six grandchildren , their dogs and cats and my joyful Irish Setter. I also receive Joy from my brother, his wife (my close friend) their son and his son.  Joy also comes to me in the memories of my beloved Mother and Father. And last but not least Joy is given freely to me by my wonderful friends.

With all of the Joy in my life one would say that I must be greedy to search for more.  However, greedy as it may be,,I wish for more, more joy, more smiles, more more laughs, conversations, time and love, more fun , for others and for myself.

Please tell me that Old Age is the new Middle Age....  I am looking for Joy but I believe that it will come in moments and not hours, days or weeks.   As I travel on this Journey of Enlightenment I will pass it on in this blog.  It may help someone, or illicit a smile or laugh.  Humor is a gift and I want lots and lots of it.  Oh I believe I just found something else I wish for.  Will  I ever stop wishing?  Hopefully not.

I will sign off for now.  Remember Old is Gold.

  1. Very good. AT 64 I am thought of as "senior" as well. Not all the businesses recognize that prestige position but restaurants and my dry cleaners give me a discount.

I don't know that those questions you have actually posed but I believe you are on track to learn from folks what they "see" in their future. Over about the last five years I have developed many aches and pains that are frustrating and since both health and appearance are important to me that is the only negative feature of beccoming a senior to me. My life has otherwise ALWAYS become better as I age. These folks who say "I wish I could go back to high school." Have at it but leave me behind; I look forward to the future.
